Day 8 - Travelling from Moors to Galashiels 19/9

Another example of Roane's handywork
Day 8 - Farndale to Galashiels

I missed this day for some reason and I'm writing it on the morning of Day 13  - so I'll be brief. I'll try and include the pictures and let them do the talking.

I started the day with Laura, Gordon and Roane. Kippers for breakie was a treat. It was hard to leave here - I enjoyed my time with this family including the stories. Today Gordon gave me a rundown of their time in the community that drew them to this place, the history of his work and the unfortunate end of his working time here caused by an accident in the workshop. I also learnt how they could run their car on mainly vegetable oil and how much money they save and how little damage it has had on the environment.

I drove off around 11 - a couple of hours later than expected - and thanks to Laura's detailed instructions, out of the moors and north towards the border.

Roman ruins in Corbridge
I took some time to walk a bit around Corbridge, around some ancient Roman ruins which was very enjoyable.  I missed seeing Hadrian's wall but at least I did buy a jigsaw puzzle involving a picture of the wall to give away.

A river view at Corbridge

The trip up the country roads of England was great and when I reached the border between England and Scotland I was pleased there was a way to highlight this.

I made it to Galashiels late in the afternoon and after an hour of searching and bad timing eventually I was able to meet Sandy - Graham and Diane Carbert's friend from Canada  - as well as Sandy's sister and bro in law: Denise and Brian. I work with Graham at SPC.

Lovely people, very welcoming and good for a conversation or three. They shared some of their tea with me and later, we all sat in the lounge and stared at our screens together. It was fun.
