Day 7 - Farnsdale, Whitby, Yorkshire Moors 18/9

This may be a bit dangerous but I'm going to try typing straight on to the site using a different phone.

I woke up bright and early on my first day at the Farndale farm. What a glorious day too. I'm beginning to think what people say about English weather is all bumpkin.
Laura, Gordon and Roane's place in Farnsdale - house on the left.

I had a lovely night's sleep and a filling breakie. I asked if we could go on a trip and a walk, so it was decided we would go to the beach first then a walk later.
Inside their cosy lounge room
Whitby beach was our first destination but before that we had to drive over the moors, missing the sheep and being prepared to back up the car if we came across another on the thin roads with stone walls either side.

Whiteby Abbey 1500 years old - plus Gordon, Roane and Laura

We walked around a beautiful old abbey- pictured above - then down to the pier and the rocks where we spent some time looking for fossils. We saw quite a few ammolites or ammonite or something. I'll leave it to the spell checker on this weird phone to work out.

Where we went Fossil hunting at Whiteby beach
A fossil - the name of which I could never get right

After that we wandered up into town and had a traditional  beachside lunch : Cod and chips. I originally said Hake and chips which Laura said was very wrong. Also we bought some Herring from a very old shop in the town to have in the morning.
Captain Cook came from Whiteby - very well respected here - by all bar the birdlife

The town was packed with people, and I couldn't blame them from coming down here.
It was very picturesque.
Roane asked what we would like her to crotchet. I suggested something topical:  an ammo ...anno... a fossil like the ones we saw here. She made one as we sat down looking at the scenery. Then a second one in the car. She's very talented is Roane.

Whiteby was a beautiful seaside town - very popular on a Sunny Sunday afternoon

On the Moors on the way home from Whiteby
We returned late afternoon but a little after six we decided to go for our walk. Up the moors behind Gordon and Laura's place. We walked passed the shooters blinds and reached the tip just after sunset. Returning down was a challenge but a sense of achievement when we returned.
Views from the top were still spectacular... Even in the dark
