Day 4 - Travelling North - Stratford-upon-Avon - 15/9

Day 4 - Travelling North - Stanford- upon -Avon
Start the day with another walk to Pancras station

Started the day quit early and went for a wander down Kings Cross again.

A place to pick up a coffee - just like back home (when in Melb)
Starbucks has wifi I thought. It struck me as a walked through the busy peak hour traffic, looking at people as I went, the only ones willing to say hello were the homeless. There were a lot sleeping on the side of busy streets in doorways and against the international railway station. I had a good chat about the weather and where I came from to one guy - very friendly he was.

10 o'clock was pick up the car time and although the address seemed easy enough to find, I thought, there was no sign of a car rental place anywhere. I was starting to get worried when my phone was running out of charge as I frantically searched for a solution. Luckily though, after over an hour of searching, I found a car park under Bloomsbury Square and there it was.

The Shakespeare theatre at Stratford

I left London as fast as I could. Not because I didn't like it, it's just that I remembered riding on those buses. Eventually made it out to Oxford, had lunch, but rather than check out the town a bit, I decided to move on to Stanford, the birthplace of Shakespeare.

The motorways took a little getting used to I must say. Three lanes all the way and traffic speeding along at plus or minus the 70mph speed limit - I had to guess that - no speed signs. I took a wrong turn and ended up going in the wrong direction for quite some time.

Finally made it around 4:30 and I found a lovely B&B. I was on the top floor with a great view.

B&B at Stratford - cool Attic room

I went to a Shakespeare Theatre Company performance of Cymbeline - which was fantastic. Met a guy from Derbyshire who had been a drama teacher before working in Theatre all over Europe. Very nice chap. And the fellow on the other side of me travelled 150 kms a dozen times a year to see each new show here in Stratford. Talk about committed.  He likes to
bushwalk and shared some interesting stories.

A section of the Avon bit of Stratford-upon-Avon

I felt blessed with the time I've spent in this town already and I'm looking forward to exploring it more this morning.
