The McGovern's kindly drove me into Edinburgh airport from their home in Moffat this morning. An hour and a half journey so I was very grateful.

I was worried I wouldn't have enough time to get between planes at Gatwick airport but in the end the Spanish plane was delayed and I was fine. I took the opportunity to buy some books including a Spanish phrase book - which could come in handy.
At Oviedo airport, I was amazed how quickly we got through customs. One winding line disappeared in a flash as the the customs guy hardly gave everyone a second glance. I must have looked a bit shady as he did give me ONE glance but that was enough.

I dawdled getting out of the airport though and missed a city bus. Taxi drivers at the start of the rank "saw me coming" and the one English speaking guy said it would cost 56€ or $84 to get into town. I didn't believe him when he said it was 56 km but I eventually went with the offer. As I thought it would be money well spent ... considering. You know a stranger in a strange city. I could ask this guy heaps of questions. But he ushered me in to the non-English-speaking driver's car. We had an amusing ride for half an hour on the motorway trying to communicate with each other. At one stage he made a chicken noise and laughed. I'm sure he was making some crude suggestions about girls who walk the Camino and suggested my wife at home wouldn't know. He indicated this to me by covering his eyes then laughing - which made me a little nervous as we driving at 120 km/hr at the time. I shouldn't have laughed though ... It only encouraged him.
