Last night we went out for tea at a Palestinian restaurant - it was the night before that we watched "Life of Brian".
And I forget to tell you about my second efforts at haggling in the market. Firstly I convinced a shopkeeper to model a scarf for a photograph to send home for approval before purchase.
He was asking 30 shekels but I found the exact same ones around the corner for 10 shekels ($3.50 US). Lucky I didn't buy them. I did do some haggling at another shop and bought a pair of earrings that went from 100 shekels to 150 shekels ( I don't know how that happened ) then down to 50 when I started to walk away. This is fun... But now I look at them again I think he still charged me more than they were worth. More haggling stories to come I hope.
Today was a quiet day. We had a 2 hour lecture on Judaism and Yom Kippur ... it sounds like a tasty fish the English have for breakfast , I know but it really is the Day of Atonement ... A day of fasting , prayer and repenting for the year's sins. We will be attending one of the five services at a synagogue tomorrow night (when it starts) and I'm looking forward to it.
I didn't take any photos today as I had a quiet afternoon in. But here are a few I prepared earlier for those who skip the writing and just look at the photos. I'm not complaining ... At least you are still checking out the blog.
I can't believe I have only included 1 picture of the view from the balcony of this place, Ecce Homo ( I hope you are pronouncing this right ... Etch-A Homo) here are 2 more.
This is the balcony
And this a view looking towards the Temple Mount at sunset.
Here is a picture of me wearing the kippah ... incorrectly ...that I found on the street the other day. It needs a hair clip to keep it on ... Scotch tape for those with even less hair than me apparently does the same trick.
This was taken in my room where I am about to get some shut eye.
Until tomorrow .... I promise.
